Childhood Memories
I remember growing up as a little girl, only child, too much time on my hands and no one to play with other than the family dog Skippy and many colorful birds my grandma had on the patio.
I have so many fond memories of Skippy. He was a beautiful, brindled mutt who looked like a teddy bear. He was so calm and patient with me. He’d follow me around everywhere and lay beside me. What was a lonely little girl to do but dress up the family dog and have him sit for tea and cookies.
Lucky for me, he was all about the attention. He didn’t care or fuss when I dressed him in my fancy dresses, piled on play beaded necklaces, hats and glasses. My grandmother on the other hand, well that was a different story.
I can’t say that all pets are primed for that dress-up experience. Some flat out look tormented. All pets are different that’s for sure. Pet parents are the best to judge how far they can go with dress-up or not.
Back to the Pageant
Recently, I was approached by a local Boise gal, Laura Hart, who was getting started with the planning of the 2nd Annual Pooch Pageant which benefits the Idaho Humane Society’s Pet Food Pantry. I’m a sucker for good causes.
I jumped at the chance to work with her to make this 2nd Annual Pooch Pageant the best one yet. Although I must admit, the one thought that crossed my mind was the dress-up part. Just because I know not all pets enjoy that. The great news is that dogs don’t have to dress up at all to join in on the fun. BUT, if your pooch is the type that loves the glitter and glitz – then so be it! We welcome it. The bottom line is, this event is about getting out and socializing. It’s about having fun while doing something wonderful to help our community.
Catching My Breath
Flash forward 30 days later, several meetings, tons of coffee and the launch of the official Pooch Pageant website at www.poochpageant.org was official. We added a media page for local bloggers who want to help us raise awareness of the event and spread the word – check it out!
If you are in the Boise area, join us in our efforts to raise funds and donations. We are in dire need of pet food and supplies especially for cats. All donations and proceeds go directly to help the Pet Food Pantry. To RSVP to attend or to enter your pooch for the pageant click on the link below.
Looking forward to seeing our Boise pet owners on March 13, 2016 at the 2nd Annual Pooch Pageant!
