The Harsh Reality of Homeless Pets

“Another day.  I’m tired, hungry and in pain.  Another day of making my way on the streets.  Will I find a scrap of food?  Will I be brushed aside, passed by and looked upon as a nuisance?  Will I be dodging the cruelty of humans?  Will I survive?  I’m not sure I have the strength to endure…another day.” — one homeless pet

Animal homelessness…

Imagine yourself alone, scared, hungry and hurting.  Imagine you had no way to communicate with those around you.  No way to ask for food, shelter or a simple drink of water.  Imagine a world where you were abused simply because you were weaker than those around you.  Imagine this was your life everyday…

According to Do Something.org homeless animals outnumber homeless people 5 to 1.  Why are these numbers so high?  Irresponsible “backyard breeders” are a huge reason. Puppy Mills where unscrupulous people treat dogs as commodities rather than family members.  People who fail to have their pets spayed or neutered or those who believe having one litter is not going to harm anything.  But for every 10 dogs born, only one will find a permanent home.  What is the fate for the other nine?  Will they end up in the hands of cruel humans who use them for sport or bait? Will they spend the majority of their lives chained in a backyard with no stimulation, shelter or proper care?  Or will they find themselves on the mean streets where they are at the mercy of nature and humans?

We may watch the videos of street animals and feel bad for the moment.  We may even go as far as signing a petition or sending money to further a cause, but what are we to do to TRULY help these forgotten and abused homeless animals?  Take a moment to watch this video of what life is like for a dog left on the streets. Some homeless pets were once loved and cared for by their masters but life got in the way…it happens to the best of us.

At KirinGie.Me we believe that by bringing pet owners together we can build a support network to be there for each other. We believe it’s much better for us and our pets to lend a hand early on rather than once pets end up left behind or in shelters or worse, at risk of being euthanized. It happens. It happens every day. It doesn’t have to be that way. There is strength in numbers, join us.
